Sleep and mental health are closely connected. Lack of sleep affects your psychological state and mental health. And those with mental health problems are more likely to suffer with insomnia or other sleep disorders.

The good news is there are simple basic steps that you can take to improve your mental health. In the interview below, Dr Tom Christodoulides outlines some of these steps. He also wrote a more detailed account in a document which you can download in the section below the video.

The video was recorded during the Coronaviru pandemic of 2020 but contains advice and information that could be used anytime one is having difficulty in sleeping.

The 'How to Sleep Better' document that Dr Tom Christodouledes is referring to is available to download below:

How to Sleep Well

Remember: Don't try to put into practice all the tips at once, but apply one or two and then add some more in. Also, be kind to yourself - lack of sleep is difficult anyway, and moreso if it is added to pre-existing mental health conditions. And if you are seeing someone about your mental health, please let them know if you are struggling to sleep.
